Winter Frost Delays

Cold weather is headed our way over the next couple of weeks, and that means there's a good chance we'll have frost delays.  It's important to check with the Pro Shop before you head out on the course, especially if you have an early morning tee time.  If overnight temperatures drop to the low 20s, there's a good chance the frost delay can last until 10am.

One question I get all the time, is "Why are there frost delays in the first place?"  The simple answer is that crunchy grass is subject to something called "winterkill."  The leaf blades are frozen during a frost and when that leaf is stepped on, it shatters.  This ends up killing the leaf and preventing it from turning green in the springtime.

Also, be vigilant of shaded areas.  Even after a frost delay is over, there's a good chance frost is still around in the shade.  Winterkill is always more prevalent in lower cut areas, such as the greens.  So, anytime you see frost on the green try to stay away.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our golf course in the best condition!
