Our March Meeting started with a presentation from guest speaker Lee Winkleman of Top Gun Charters. Top Gun Charters operates out of Morehead City and most of his trips are Coastal Offshore fishing which usually target such species as Bonita, Spanish Mackerel, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and most migrating fish that come through our area. Lee also made an announcement that he has purchased a new 30’ Triton fishing boat. Now he will be able to go further offshore (20-30 miles) so as to target many fish that normally do not come in close to shore such as Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, etc. You can find him on Facebook at “Top Gun Fishing” At the end of Lee’s presentation, he raffled off some items like Tee Shirts, Drink Coolies, and the big prize was a Half Day fishing trip won by club member, Mike Seigel.
At this point we started our general meeting with a Treasures Report, and Membership Report, and then Harvey P. presented a presentation for proposed tee shirts with prospective prices. A sign-up sheet was passed around for anyone who would be interested in a shirt.
We will be having our first outing on Saturday, March 22nd, which will be an open fishing tournament in and around Fairfield Harbour. Any species is eligible, but it must be documented with a photo that shows the size. The winner will be gifted with bragging rights and a photo on our website. Anyone fishing from shore will be given a 2” handicap over anyone fishing off a boat. This event will start at daybreak, then we will meet back at the Cart Barn for a BBQ. The cost is $6.00 so as to cover the cost of the food.
Harvey also spoke of a Kayak Camping Trip in the near future. More info to follow.
Next up was our Raffle for a Rod, Reel and Tackle which was won by Don Yuska! Congratulations to Don.
Our meeting ended with our 50/50 raffle which was won by Mike Seigel. Congratulations to Mike who had also won the half-day fishing trip on Top Gun Charters.
