Garden Club Update

On November 11, 2024 the Garden Club held its last meeting of 2024.


At the meeting the Garden Club welcomed Ethel Hess, Craven County Extension Master Gardner. She gave a very informative and humorous presentation on “Gardening for Seniors."



Scarecrow Contest:

The scarecrow contest was another success. “Team B-Gnome Defense” was the winner. Team members were Jan Reitzel, Lori Walker, Sharon Nash and Judy DuPree. They were all recognized for their great job. The Scarecrow Contest raised $154.50 to support the Club’s Scholarship program. The scarecrows were raffled off at the end of the event. The winners of the scarecrows were:


First Place: Gnome Defense was won by Sherri Burens

Second Place: On Break was won by Anne Gehlsen

Third Place: Garden Lady was won by Ann McDougall


Thank you everyone that built a scarecrow or volunteered to help with the event or purchased raffle tickets.


Tupperware Fundraiser:

Eileen Wagner informed the members at the meeting that the Tupperware Fundraiser brought in $119.10 for the benefit of the Garden Club. Thank you everyone that supported this fundraiser. Kathy Halquist was the winner of the Tupperware Raffle that Eileen held for those that had purchased items for the Tupperware Fundraiser. She received a lovely picnic basket.



Annual FHGC Raffle Baskets:

Linda Gregg and Janet Jonah had their beautifully arranged Raffle Baskets on display at the meeting and they were raffled off at the end of the meeting. The Raffle Basket Committee thanks everyone that supported the Fund Raiser which raised $497.00 to support the club’s Scholarship Fund.



Door Prizes:

Lucille Durst raffled off three African Violets in pink, white and blue. The lucky winners were Marcia Wernecke, Kathy Fuller and Minta Fannon.




The next meeting of the Garden Club will be January 13, 2025 at 9:30am in the FH Community Center. The speakers will be Mary McClean and Bob Forsythe, Master Gardeners for the Craven Agricultural Extension Center. The title of their presentation is “Weeding and Seasonal Maintenance."
