THE FH HOSPITAL AUXILIARY WISHES YOU
A BLESSED HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
The Fairfield Harbour Hospital Auxiliary volunteers are ramping up their productivity to ensure
that we can cover the Carolina East Medical Center’s regular needs, in addition to what we do
for the holiday season for patients. There is always much to do, and as John Heywood once
said, “Many hands, make light work.” We would love to have new members come and join us
to see what we do and what we are all about, which is helping our community.
The hospital auxiliary had a Bake and Breakfast Sale at the Community Center during the
Fairfield Harbour Fall Yard Sale. It was a beautiful morning of typical North Carolina early
autumn weather! Many sellers and shoppers alike came inside the Community Center for fresh from the oven cinnamon rolls and warm and toasty breakfast casseroles and quiches. Many of the Auxiliary volunteers jumped in to make all kinds of sweet breads, cookies, brownies, muffins, and bunt cakes for the bake sale, too. We had a great response to our 50/50 raffle, where James Gilbert won $72! Congratulations, James! During the yard sale, Mary Lou Infinito and her team ran a successful booth filled with treasures that were donated by our volunteers and neighbors. The money our booth earns during this yard sale is delegated for supplies for our knitters, crocheters, and sewers. Janell Ringuette has always been a phenomenal chairwoman for our bake sales, which helps to support the Auxiliary’s need to purchase yarn, fabric, thread, and Poly-Fil to make the many items that the hospital needs for patients, young and not-so-young. On Saturday, October 26 th Fairfield Harbour will have its annual Fall Craft Fair in the Community Center parking lot. The Auxiliary will be offering a delicious hot lunch of soup and chili to crafters and shoppers, so please come out and support your creative neighbors. Enjoy all the pictures below.
We are now in crunch time for our holiday projects, so it’s all hands-on deck for our volunteers. The baby blanket sets that the Auxiliary makes for newborns in the month of December is right on track with chairwoman, Lucille Durst at the helm. Wow, I am using a lot of nautical terms! It must be the inspiration of the water that surrounds us.
Our second BIG project is making and delivering Christmas stockings to patients who are
unfortunately confined to the hospital over the Christmas holidays. This can be a very lonely
and difficult time for many people, so there is a need and want to bring a little bit of joy and
light into their day. Most of the stockings have been made and are ready to be stuffed with all
kinds of handmade treasures, along with toiletry essentials, as well as some fun games and
puzzles. If you would like to contribute to this wonderful cause, then please visit our Amazon
Wish List site here. We still need a lot, so please visit the site above, and if you are not
comfortable ordering online you can see what we need and pick them up at the dollar stores,
Ollies, Walmart, etc. You can then drop them off at Ruth Blackwell’s at 1004 Yacht Court, and
if you order on Amazon you can select to deliver it to her home and never need to leave your
chair. The 230 stockings will be delivered to Carolina East on December 23 rd , just in time for
Santa and Mrs. Claus to hand-deliver them to patients on Christmas Eve, which gives them a bit of happiness during their stay over the holidays. BTW, Santa and his lovely wife (aka Mrs.
Claus) have been visiting many hospitals for over 56 years! Thank You, Santa!!
The FFH Hospital Auxiliary meets on the third Monday of most every month, at the
Community Center from 9:30 to 10:30. Our next meeting will be on Monday, November 18th .
The Auxiliary does not hold meetings during the summer months of July and August. It’s a
great way to meet new friends and become involved in our community by helping Carolina East Medical Center. Our organization is free of charge to become a member. For membership information you may contact our Chairperson, Ruth Blackwell or Membership Chairs, Pat Geres and Judy Gates. We would love for you to join us, the Auxiliary welcomes both men and women.
