The Fairfield Harbour Hospital Auxiliary has been moving forward with all kinds of projects during this busy fall season. On October 26th, the Auxiliary prepared a delicious lunch at the Fall Craft Fair for vendors and shoppers alike. Janell Ringuette and her dedicated team made delicious homemade soups and chili served with homemade brownies and cookies. Our hospital volunteer department headed by Shaellen Thompson, Volunteer Manager, paid for all the cooking supplies for this event. Thank you, Sha! At our October meeting, Betty Lou Krasenics announced that we had a monthly record-breaking number of volunteer hours reported from the Fairfield Harbour Hospital Auxiliary at 2,249 hours, with a YTD total of 6,874 hours!! This is quite impressive, and I know that Carolina East Health System appreciates all that we do for them!
The FH Hospital Auxiliary has also had quite a busy fall season with so many of our major projects coming to a wonderful conclusion. On Thursday November 7th, volunteers Lucille Durst and Janell Ringuette presented adorable baby blankets and tiny beanie hat sets for 150 babies who are expected to arrive via the stork at Carolina East Medical Center during the month of December. Project Baby Blanket has been chaired by Lucille Durst for 12 years and counting, and she and her wonderful team of volunteers create the most beautiful sets for these precious new bundles of joy. I know this makes many new mamas and papas feel so gratefully blessed that people share their time and talent to do this for them. Please enjoy the pictures below.
On December 10th, Carolina East Health System will have a Holiday Volunteer Luncheon at the Flame, for the wonderful group of people who volunteer at the hospital, medical buildings, and the auxiliary. It’s a delightful event filled with good food, music and getting to see old and new friends during the holiday season.
In the afternoon of December 22nd, several of Santa’s elves will get together to stuff 230 stockings that were hand-sewn by auxiliary volunteers throughout the year. Many volunteers make eyeglass cases, mug rugs, coasters, wash cloths, and picture frames. Other volunteers, local businesses, and our Fairfield Harbour neighbors donate items to put into the stockings, like decks of cards, note pads, pencils, puzzle books, and toiletries. It’s not too late to donate the necessary items on our Amazon Wish List page by clicking here. As we all know, it must be a sad and difficult time to be in the hospital during the holidays, but especially at Christmas. We hope and pray that this special effort helps these patients to feel comforted and loved by their community when Santa hands them a stocking on Christmas Eve morning.
Ruth Blackwell, has been the chair of Project Stockings for several years now, and the entire auxiliary is involved in the many steps that lead up to Santa’s arrival with Mrs. Claus on December 24th. Dear Ol’ Santa has been coming to hospitals for 56 years and you can just see everyone’s face light up when he walks into a room! 😊
The holidays are always such a special time for us, and I know that the baby blankets and stockings that are given to patients gives them a sense of Hope, Joy, Peace and Love… which is what this holiday season is all about.
We are happy to announce that we have had several new members join our team: Nicki Kogan, Rhonda Miller, and Joyce Boker. One of our newest members is Janet Nerlien who hails from Minnesota and is an expert at crocheting and knitting. She reached out to me at a River Bend craft fair last month and once we got to chatting, she shared that she loves to make baby blankets, which is always in demand at Carolina East, and wanted to know if she could donate them to the Hospital Auxiliary. Janet has a true gift, and I am so thankful that God chose us to accept this wonderful treasure. Janet also makes afghans, toys, wash cloths, mug rugs, and beanie hats for both infants and adults. Much of what you can do for the auxiliary effort can be done from the comfort of your home; except we do request that members try to attend our monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month. We wish a warm welcome to all of you who have joined us! 😊
The FFH Hospital Auxiliary meets on the third Monday of most every month, at the Community Center from 9:30 to 10:30. The auxiliary does not hold meetings during the summer months of July and August. It’s a great way to meet new friends and become involved in our community in helping Carolina East Medical Center. Please join us and see what we’re all about. Our organization is completely free of cost and for membership information you may contact our Chairperson, Ruth Blackwell or Judy Gates and Pat Geres, Membership Chairs.
HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE!
