Blooms are abounding, and boats are appearing as Spring is in full force in Fairfield Harbour.

April was a busy month for the Yacht Club with Commissioning Day kicking off the boating season. This is the 41st year for the Club to hold Blessing of the Fleet and Commissioning Day on Saturday, April 12th. Boats decked out in nautical flags made their way down Spring Creek, and the Blessing of the Fleet took place on the grassy knoll near the new clubhouse. This is where each boat, irrespective of beliefs or religion, is blessed for safety for the coming year. This was followed by a solemn ceremony introducing club officers and leaders, honoring past Commodores, and recognizing members who have passed during the past year. Club and Community members all had the opportunity to watch this yearly event. A champagne luncheon was held at the Community Center following the events on the water.
The Neuse River Regatta was held the following day. The weather cooperated, and these were the results:
Navigator:
1st Place-Scott Fedor in Oasis,
2nd Place-Dennis Harms in Harms Way
3rd Place-John Jackson in Georgie Girl
4th Place-Steve Hart in Graca
Spinnaker:
1st Place-David Gillespie in Zen Tuna
2nd Place-Tom McKnight in Anathema
The Wilkerson Cup was awarded to Scott Fedor.
The program for the month was presented by Clare Brock and was about the ETYSA( Edward Teach Youth Sailing Association). This is a wonderful opportunity here in the Harbour where grandchildren and youth friends can learn how to sail in a comprehensive program available in our backyard.
May promises to be a busy month for the club with a social event celebrating Cinco de Mayo with traditional Mexican food, music, and festivities. Of course, it is held Monday, May 5th in Red Sail Park.
Alligators will be the subject for the monthly meeting, and the program will be presented by Chris Kent from NC Wildlife. It is only a rumor that Charlie will be making an appearance. The program is held on Thursday, May 8th, in the Community Center, and the informational program is open to the public. A Full-Moon Raft Up and Shakedown Cruise are planned for water activities as well as many informal boating events.
The Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club is open to any resident of Fairfield Harbour with a power or sailing vessel. Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7 pm.
